Packing tips to help you make the most of your Storage Space E14

There’s an art to packing a storage unit efficiently to get the most out of your space. It can be a big task, especially if you’re moving out or looking to store large items away. Ultimately, keeping your possessions safe is most important, but if you pack to the best of your ability, then even better!

Whether you’re renovating or clearing out some lockdown clutter, our storage space E14 facility is here to offer you some key packing tips, to help you get the most out of your storage.

Heavy items go first!

So that you don’t waste space, put all of your heavy items at the bottom. That’s the first rule! Whether that be a hoover, fish tank or a box filled with your favourite beers and wines, put it at the bottom. This way, you create a stable base to place your lighter boxes on top and reduce the risk of causing any damage to them. If you can, make sure the heavier boxes are in a similar size box to reduce the number of empty gaps that you have at the bottom as this will be wasted room that you can’t fit anything else into.

Don’t overload or underfill

The boxes that you pack away need to hold their shape. It’s no good putting a box on top of one that is barely full and becomes crushed, because this will reduce the amount you can fit into it.

Equally, you don’t want to overload a box to the point that when you go to put the box into the unit, it breaks or is a struggle to move around.

Sign post your boxes

Of course, make sure all of your boxes are sealed securely, to avoid any potential damage to your belongings. But whilst you’re doing that, anything that’s fragile, make it clear! Buy yourself some fragile tape, so that you can visually identify what needs to be handled with extra care. Place these items at the top of your unit to avoid any heavy items being placed on glass or sentimental items.

Vacuum-sealed bags

It’s worth investing in or hiring a hoover which can vacuum seal items such as blankets, pillows and towels. Often, these items can take up far too much room, when in essence they could be one of the easiest things to cram into a storage unit. It’s so easy to waste space in packing these so be sure to research where you can hire or borrow a hoover which has this feature when loading a storage unit.
