Store That Discuss Weird and Wonderful Hobbies

The world is full of weird and wonderful things, and that includes hobbies and interests. You name it and someone probably collects it. Over the years many people have used storage units to house their interesting hobbies, so the team at Store That thought we would tell you about some of our favourite hobbies we have found online.

LARPing

You might have heard of cosplay before, but have you heard of LARPing? It stands for live action role playing and is a hobby in which people gather at conventions or events dressed as characters (usually fantasy) to battle, socialise, and have fun. It’s like Dungeons and Dragons, but in real life. Participants create their own characters and costumes and come to together to act out various fictional scenes. If you don’t want your battle replicas on display at home, Store That get it – so why not use one of our easy access drive by units to store them in until D-day commences?

Card Collecting

This might not seem that strange, but the lengths people go to when collecting cards is quite something. The most rare and expensive Pokémon card is the Pikachu illustrator card. This card was originally given to winners of promo contests that were held in 1997 and 1998. There are only 41 copies in existence and if kept in mint condition, this card is valued at $375,000. When it comes to Pokémon card collections, Gary Haase from Las Vegas has the most expensive collection, totalled at $10 million! Other card collections like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Sailor Moon also amass a large fandom of collectors, some choosing to sell and make a profit, others choosing to hold onto these prized possessions. If you have a large card collection, why not put them in a secure storage facility like the Store That units?

Taxidermy

One of the weirder hobbies that the Store That team have uncovered whilst searching online, is Taxidermy. This hobby has been around in England since the early 19th century and developed from a curiosity of nature. To this day, people collect taxidermy animals, display them in homes, and even have taxidermy competitions. These involve prizes for the best-looking taxidermy animal and even interpretive taxidermy, where individuals will display unique taxidermy art.

LEGO

Did you know that your favourite childhood toy has been turned into a hobby for adults? Many adults across the world still collect and build LEGO sets. In fact, there are some sets that are so expensive, that the only thing you’d want to do with them is build them and display them on a shelf. The most expensive set is currently a Star Wars AT-AT selling for £699.99.
