Storage Units in East London: Guide to Correctly Storing Books

If you are someone that loves to read, then it is likely that your collection of books is growing; maybe you’re struggling to store them within your flat or home and need a solution? Simply place them in our secure storage units in East London!

Despite what you may think, there is actually a very rigours process to ensuring books are correctly stored. Whilst everything you put in a storage unit must be stored carefully to prevent damage, books are particularly delicate and must be stored in a certain way. Today, the Store That team are going to give you their top tips for how to store your books correctly.

Check Before You Store

The majority of damage done to books and other items that are placed in storage units is the result of the owner not checking them beforehand. All items, particularly books, must be free of any food or liquid damage. We’ve all had the odd snack or a cup of tea whilst we read a book and, whilst getting a little bit of tea on a page isn’t the end of the world, when it comes to storage, it can be the undoing of your books. Even a small amount of moisture left to fester can form mold or mildew, spreading throughout your collection. To avoid this, check for any kind of water damage before placing your books in our storage units in East London

Wrap Your Books

Just as you would any other item, you may want to individually wrap your books before placing them in storage. Although this can be time consuming, it can prevent your books being damaged by dust or dirt, plus, it stops them knocking against one another in transit to the storage units in East London. The ideal material for wrapping books is paper towels or bubble wrap. Here at Store That, we have bubble wrap available to purchase from our packaging shop.

Storing in Boxes

Make sure you are placing your books inside a box or crate before you put them in your storage unit. This will help to further protect them from any grime and possible moisture. You can use any plastic storage container or cardboard box, as long as you are able to store the books vertically with the paper edge facing upwards. A secure lid is also essential. Make sure to place the heavier books at the bottom of the box, this way, you won’t damage any others under unnecessary weight. If you are using carboard boxes, be sure to seal them with packaging tape for extra protection.
