How Scuba Divers can use Self-storage in E14

If you’re a well-seasoned scuba diver, you’ll be aware that your PADI Open Water training teaches you to store your diving equipment correctly. Not only does storing your gear protect an expensive investment, but it can also prolong the life of your equipment. To prepare for your next diving season and get the most out of your scuba gear, the team at Store That are here to discuss how self-storage in E14 can be extremely useful for our fellow divers.

How to Store Wetsuits and Drysuits

Suits are one of the most important pieces of equipment for divers alike. Whether you own a short or long length wetsuit, it can suffer from damages if not properly cared for once the dive season is over.

Step 1: Thoroughly wash down your wetsuit after a dive, both inside and out. Be sure to remove any debris and take particular care with any zips and fastenings.

Step 2: Once cleaned, all your equipment must be dried completely prior to being stored away to prevent mould and damp damage. Remember to avoid sunlight as exposure to UV can make the colour fade and deteriorate the material.

Step 3: Hang up your dry suit using a specialist thick hanger (or multiple standard hangers for added support) to prevent misshaping. You should keep your wetsuit off the ground and not folded to keep it in its best condition possible.

Top tip: did you know that you can use bees wax on the zips to ensure they remain lubed and waterproof; ready for the next dive!

Why use self-storage in E14? There’s no risk of mice or any other pesky creatures harming your equipment. Furthermore, there is plenty of space to hang up your suits – preventing creases from folding and taking up space at home!

How to Store Diving Masks and Fins

If you’re a frequent diver, then chances are you’re building a collection of masks, fins and other accessories. To keep your equipment in good condition, it’s important to do the following...

Step 1: Carefully wash and rinse all your diving accessories to ensure no corrosive substances remain. Ensure to check for calcium deposits around the edges of your mask and dry these areas with a towel.

Step 2: Dry your fins but don’t subject them to heat as this can change their shape, effecting their efficiency when underwater. Store your fins flat and do not store them standing on their tips, as this can distort their curvature.

Step 3: If you have the original container for your mask, you should place it back in this and wrap a cotton cloth around the lens to avoid scratches. Also, if you have the plastic inserts for your fins, you should use these to maintain their foot pocket.

Why use self-storage in E14? When it comes to storing diving accessories, the temperature is crucial. The silicone lining of masks and snorkels are prone to becoming cracked or discolour in sunlight. This is why storage units in Canary Wharf are an ideal storage solution compared to homes.
