East London Storage Guide to Storing Electronics

Electronics are a substantial part of our everyday lives; we use them to cook, clean, heat our homes, and even keep in touch with people. These devices come in many different shapes and sizes, so when they aren’t in use, it’s sometimes more appropriate to store them securely, rather than taking up the space in your home or office. East London storage, like Store That, can keep your electronics safe and secure until you need them.

It is important to remember, however, that these items must be stored correctly in order to prevent damage from occurring. Today, the Store That team are going to take you through the basics of safely storing electronics in your East London storage unit!

Clean Your Electronics

Before you even think about storing any of your electrical items, you must ensure they are clean. This means inspecting them for dust, fingerprints, dirt, and other debris. If these are not removed before they are stored, other dust and dirt can build up over time, causing damage to the item, which could result in the device becoming completely unusable.

Remove Batteries and Cables

If left within electronics, batteries can break down over time, leaking and causing severe damage to the inside of your electrical items. Before placing any item in your storage unit, be sure you have removed and disposed of any batteries. If you need to keep the batteries that are inside your items, be sure to still remove them and store them separately in an appropriate container.

Cables can also cause issues when left plugged into devices such as TVs or computer monitors. We advise detaching them, coiling them carefully, storing in a box and labelling them to avoid any damage. This will also prevent mix-ups when you come to remove the electronics and their various wires from storage.

Store in Original Boxes

If you have them to hand, storing electrical items in their original boxes will prevent any damage. The original boxes are likely to have inserts that ensure everything fits correctly and safely, making them the best choice of packaging. If you cannot find the original boxes, then try storing your electricals in East London storage in your own boxes with plenty of bubble wrap and padding to protect your items.

Stacking = No!

When it comes to storing electricals, specifically older models, try to avoid stacking things on top of one another. If you have any vintage devices or electronics, don’t stack them, as they can topple over, break, or become damaged due to the weight of other heavier items. To ensure you don't need to stack, invest in some shelving or a larger storage unit
